Several years ago we handled a very serious injury truck accident involving a similar scenario only the accident in the fog was on US 290 and was not this size or scope of this pileup. The professional driver must reduce speed in foggy conditions and when the vision becomes sufficiently dangerous, discontinue the trip and get off the road. While the initial culprit appears to have been fog, it is important to note that professional truck drivers have a duty under the safety regulations to use extreme caution under hazardous conditions such as fog. Reports indicate that up to eighty people were transported to hospitals for treatment and two people were reported killed. The chain reaction resulted in a stretch of cars and eighteen-wheelers that was over 1 mile long. Apparently, two vehicles crashed in what was described as dense fog that led to a massive multiple vehicle crash. A second example would be, say a driver suddenly stops without warning or flashing their brake lights, the vehicle behind them doesn’t have time to react and collides with that vehicle.Well over one hundred cars were involved in a pile-up outside of Beaumont Texas on Interstate 10. In that situation, the first driver would be responsible for the collision. For example, if one hits the rear end of another vehicle, the impact of the initial crash results in the second driver colliding into the rear of another vehicle, injuring the third driver. In most chain reaction accidents, the driver that caused the first accident is generally the at-fault party. There are generally several different scenarios in which fault can be determined for chain reaction accidents. ![]() It’s not always easy to prove which party caused the accident when multiple vehicles are involved. Who Is Responsible for a Chain Reaction Car Accident?Įach car accident is different.
